BREAKING: Atiku picks Okowa as running mate

Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has been selected as the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Mr. Okowa’s selection was reported and affirmed by Atiku himself on Thursday at a unveiling occasion of his running mate held in Abuja.

Following the declaration, Okowa will from there on be evaluated by a panel already setup for that reason.

Review that Wike, who has been the foreman in the radar of the PDP heavyweights was speculated to be chosen as the vice presidential candidate of the people democratic party.

However, the party, yesterday (Wednesday), dismiss the reports that its Selection Committee has agreed to the Rivers State governor as the party’s vice presidential candidate.

The National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, expressed reports in the media that the PDP has picked Wike must be in the realm of rumours, saying the National Working Committee was investigating the matter and counseling, to think about the best vice presidential candidate for the party in the 2023 election.

As a component of drops to push down its process, the NWC of the PDP met in Abuja on Wednesday at 11 AM, where the advisory board continued extreme deliberations.

It was reported that the PDP selection panel had suggested the Rivers State governor after 13 of 17 individuals, who went to the gathering at the PDP National Secretariat, yesterday, casted a ballot for Wike. At the gathering, three individuals decided in favor of others, while the executive, who can cast a ballot when there is a tie, didn’t cast a ballot.

In the mean time, after the distinctly challenged PDP primaries, Wike had scored 237 against the 371 delegates votes at the PDP presidential primary won by Atiku.

Mr Okowa supported Atiku in the primary where Mr Wike was his closest challenger.

After his public presentation Thursday morning, Mr Okowa will appear before a screening committee of the party.

Political parties have until Friday (tomorrow) to submit lists of their candidates for the 2023 elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
